The Property Tax Crisis Is Far From Over

I am running to be your new state representative in large part because our property taxes are in a state of crisis and the time has come to fix the system.

Some politicians are telling us that we should be grateful to them for "solving" the property tax crisis in our neighborhoods. But if you have received your "reconciliation" bill in the mail like I have, you will learn that this "solution" only means that, for many of us, our taxes have gone up dramatically -- even after this year's reassessment!

This "solution" does not provide the hoped for reductions in property taxes for many homeowners in our neighborhoods this year. Instead, for the next several years, taxpayers will be paying significantly higher property, sales, and income taxes before they see their property taxes decrease. Unfortunately, some homeowners could lose their homes while waiting for this promised relief.

I have spent many months studying the current property tax problem created, in large part, by our state government. Now, I am asking for your help to understand exactly how bad the property tax crisis is in our area. I would like to know whether the total of property taxes you paid last year plus this reconciliation amount is higher or lower than the total you paid before the crisis began.

I want to be an informed advocate for those homeowners in our neighborhood who are being asked to bear an unfair part of the property tax burden. If you are one of the people affected, please let me know by clicking on "How have property taxes affected you?" below and completing the form. You may also contact me by clicking on Contact Ed to share your concerns.

Assessment: You are probably also concerned with your assessment since it will determine your future taxes. You can click here to go to The Indianapolis Star to check a recent history of your home assessment.

I look forward to hearing from you,
